Our Technology team, co-located with our business in the heart of the City of London, is central to achieving this ambition. We are investing in a modern technology stack, adopting a product-based approach to development, and delivering solutions through an agile framework.

Brief Role Objective:

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will be responsible for managing the Data development team, including line management responsibilities. Your main objectives will be to help manage, prioritize and deliver all the BAU activity for the team as well as working closely with the data product owner to outline the plan for delivering our strategic enterprise data platform.

Note that our current data warehouse platform is Wherescape.which we will look to sunset once the strategic platform is implemented.

Your role will involve working closely with business stakeholders to understand requirements to help prioritize the backlog. You will also be responsible for working closely with the data product owner to lead a project team to deliver an MVP implementation of LGT’s strategic data platform. Once the data platform has been implemented, you will be responsible for managing the platform and will work with multiple stakeholders across the business to support onboarding them to the platform and driving the adoption of our future operating model.

The role will also involve working closely with LGT Group colleagues to undertake various cloud security evaluations as well as with the procurement team on any vendor RFPs as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading a team of data engineers and BI Developers to deliver change to the business with effective momentum
  • Consistently leading the team to good outcomes from a technical perspective, ensuring appropriate engineering decisions are made to factor in technical debt, systems design, stability/reliability, monitoring/observability and business need.
  • Leading a dedicated project team to build and deploy an MVP, whilst upskilling existing data engineering and business intelligence workforce. Implementing data processes for the Data Warehouse and internal systems, inclusive of designing and implementing ETL processes
  • Managing and updating the data engineering architecture and building a culture of excellence within the team
  • Identify the key technology and business stakeholders to understand the LGT data domains and how data is used at LGT
  • Fostering effective collaboration between Product, Development, Infrastructure and Service Delivery
  • Talent and performance management through mentoring and encouraging safe and open feedback
  • Keep up to date with new, emerging technologies and changes within the industry
  • Ownership of incident resolution and maintenance activities related to the data platform, keeping all stakeholders informed in a timely manner and ensuring all relevant follow ups are tracked and completed

Your profile

Essential Technical Requirements:

  • At least 6-8 years’ experience designing and implementing a full-scale data warehouse solution based on modern data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks or Azure data fabric
  • Experience in developing production-ready data ingestion and processing pipelines using Java/ Spark/Scala/Python.
  • Expertise and excellent proficiency with Snowflake internals and integration of Snowflake with other technologies for data processing and reporting.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data engineering, data modelling and ETL best practice
  • Extensive experience working with Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with Agile development practices
  • Previous experience with microservice architectures
  • Experience of working within a global team
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders, including non-technical business stakeholders to ensure their buy in and support

Desirable Technical Requirements:

  • Knowledge of security concepts relevant to Azure

Other skills, competencies and attributes:

  • Outstanding communication skills and comfortable speaking in large group settings. Able to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable attention to detail in written communication and work activities.
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Able to work within a fast paced environment
  • Willing to learn through sharing of information, knowledge and expertise
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
